The Story of Diglis Fish Pass With BSL

27 May @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Unlocking the Severn is a conservation and river engagement project that is using modern engineering to provide connectivity to the River Severn. Since the industrial revolution, human barriers have impacted wildlife in the UK’s longest river. We are providing fish passages or modifications at 6 weirs on the Rivers Severn and Teme, allowing fish such as the twaite shad to reach their natural spawning grounds once again.

In this virtual talk we will be celebrating the completion of Unlocking the Severn’s first Deep Vertical Slot Fish Pass, at Diglis Weir in Worcester. Project Engineer Richard Leigh will share his expertise and experiences, and you’ll gain a unique insight into the design, build and function of this impressive structure. We will also be sharing some of the challenges that we have faced while building this fish pass, the largest of it’s kind in England & Wales.

This session is suitable for a general audience – and assumes no technical knowledge of fish passes.

This free talk will be hosted on Zoom and will be interpreted by a British Sign Language interpreter.

Joining details will be sent out to registered participants in advance using the email address provided. The talk will be tailored to adults but is also suitable for older children, who should be supervised during the event.

Unlocking the Severn is a conservation and river engagement project being delivered by Canal & River Trust, Severn Rivers Trust, Environment Agency and Natural England. It is made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the European Union LIFE Programme.
