“The Wedding Singer” is a musical comedy based on the popular 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This musical version of the show first premiered on Broadway in 2006. It is set in New Jersey in 1985 and the songs, set, costumes and choreography for the show reflect this period. You will see our hard-working cast take on a number of roles in this fast-moving and hilarious show. Among the well-known songs are “It’s your Wedding Day” and “Saturday night in the City”. The musical revolves around Robbie Hart, who lives with his grandma in Ridgefield, New Jersey. Robbie and his band sing at weddings, but his career goes off the rails when his relationship with his fiancée Linda falls apart and he takes to drinking and ruining other peoples’ weddings. Eventually, with the help of his grandma, his fellow band members and feelings for a new love Julia, he pulls himself together. With the help of a group of impersonators (including Billy Idol, Ronald Reagan and Imelda Marcos) Robbie persuades Julia to abandon her Las Vegas wedding to the sleazy Glen, and marry him instead. She says Yes! So the ultimate wedding turns out to be Robbie’s own wedding to Julia. Cue the big Finale with a happy ending.
