October half-term holiday is fast approaching, and families can enjoy a fun day out at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum and The Commandery – from Frightful Fairytales to Spook-tacular Family Mornings.

At Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, the holiday is all about Frightful Fairytales. Families can delve into their favourite once-upon-a-time tales with lots of activities throughout the week – including hidden storybooks that will be waiting in secret places around the museum for children to find.
The family-friendly Activity Space will be ready for lots of creativity inspired by Little Red Riding Hood and more, with crafts to be found in Bags of Fun. Bags of Fun (£2.50) and Family Trails (£1) will be available in the Art Gallery and Museum shop from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November (closed Mondays).
On Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October, Get Arty creative mornings return. Children can design and build their own pop-up storybook inspired by tales from Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and the deep dark forest. Get Arty is £5.50 per child and booking is available at museumsworcestershire.org.uk. Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum is free to visit.
The Commandery is perfect for a spooky day out, holding centuries of history within its walls ready to be discovered. The family trail, The Witch’s Potion, takes children on a journey around The Commandery in the footsteps of Wren Crowfeather, a very busy witch, who has dropped the ingredients to her potion. Can they find all the trolls’ toenails, mermaid scales, and swamp slime for her? The family trail is on from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November (closed Mondays), and is £1 plus general admission.
The October half-term holiday promises more spook-tacular adventures as family mornings return on Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28, and Thursday 29 October. Children can get crafty with lots of activities including making a mischievous mini monster, do some spooky colouring in, and enjoy a magical story to round off the session. Fancy dress is very welcome!
Family mornings are £5.50 per child plus general admission and booking is available at museumsworcestershire.org.uk. General admission applies to all visitors to The Commandery. Visitors can get free admission with a season or Worcester Residents’ pass.
“We can’t wait to see lots of families in October – it’s our favourite time of year at The Commandery and it’s wonderful to see everyone having a great time in the holiday,” said Helen Manning, Events and Activities Coordinator at The Commandery.
